The Catalan treasury claims 88 million from its 51 largest defaulters

The Tax Agency of Catalonia (ATC) reported yesterday that it has 51 large debtors, who have outstanding tax debts of more than 600,000 euros, from whom it claims a total of 88.5 million in tax debt and penalties. that are derived from it.

The Catalan treasury made the list public, which can be consulted at the electronic headquarters of the ATC, an initiative that is part of the 2019-2022 tax fraud reduction plan. The list includes taxpayers who, as of December 31, 2021, had pending payment debts and tax penalties corresponding to their own taxes or assigned by the State managed by the ATC.

The largest debtors are the company Playbadalona, from the gaming sector, which in December owed the regional coffers more than 10 million euros, as well as Rec Madral and Riera de Cabanyes – two companies dedicated to water management – which had outstanding payments 6.7 and 6.3 million, respectively. Below are two debtors who are natural persons, Maria Carmen and Maria del Mar Ballbé Anglada, a family linked to the real estate sector, who accumulate doubts of 3.66 and 3.56 million euros, respectively.

The Moramar recreational rooms owed almost 3.5 million; Ana Maria Borrell Marín's debts amounted to 3.38 million; and Montserrat Unanue Navarro had pending payment of 3.1 million.

The list of defaulters has been published by the Government since 2019, although in the first two years the threshold for making the names of the debtors public was one million euros, while now it has dropped to 600,000 euros as a result of a modification of the rule.

In 2019, the ATC identified nine taxpayers with debts greater than 14.8 million euros; an amount that rose in 2020, to 36.7 million, owed by 17 taxpayers.

In the 2021 list, which, as in the previous two years, only included natural or legal persons who owed more than one million euros, 27 taxpayers owed a total of 68.73 million.

However, the list of defaulters is limited because the Generalitat has a reduced collection capacity, so that the main taxes managed by the ATC are inheritance and donations, transfers of assets and documented legal acts, those related to gambling, and settlements from the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) in relation to the water canon.
