The businessman Joaquim Uriach Torelló will be the new president of the Orfeó Català

The candidacy led by businessman and lawyer Joaquim Uriach Torelló (Barcelona, 1966) has been the only one to run for president of the Orfeó Català, replacing Mariona Carulla, who had been in office for 13 years.

According to the Associació Orfeó Català, the deadline set by its statutes ended last Saturday at 4 pm, so Uriach's candidacy, which has submitted twice the number of endorsements needed to be admitted (210 members of the Orfeó), will be recognized in general assembly on June 21.

The statutes of the association provide that in the event of a single candidacy there will be no election day, so the one scheduled for June 20 is cancelled. The members of the winning candidacy will accept their positions for a period of four years.

They are, among others, Eugenia Bieito, first vice president; Lluís Domènech, second vice-president; Joan Vallvé, general secretary; Ignacio García-Nieto, treasurer; Jordi Cabré Trias, second secretary; Jaume Martí Llobet, librarian, and Albert Ginovart, president of the artistic commission.

Uriach, who will chair both the Associació Orfeó Català and the Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música Catalana, has been president of the Uriach Group from 2012 to 2021 and has held other positions at the Uriach Corporation and the Laboratories J. Uriach y Cía, SA . He has also worked for Jufresa-Martell Abogados Asociados and Holco Trading Company (Mann Group).

A lover of music and his city, he has been a member of the Orfeó since 1998 and a member of the Board of Directors since 2010. Also Patron of the Foundation since last year, and also of the Pau Casals Foundation, benefactor of the Liceu, member of the Board of Directors of the Cercle del Liceu and the Board of Trustees of the Victoria Foundation of Los Angeles
