The Brocken Specter of the Sau Valley

In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can see this spectrum of Brocken, distant but colorful, in the Sau valley, which was covered in fog.

I have captured the images from the abysses of Tavertet. This elevated municipality in the Collsacabra area and the Osona region has splendid views of the Sau and Susqueda valleys.

The Brocken spectrum can be seen on the opposite side of the sun, like a rainbow, but with the colors reversed.

The reason why it is called the Brocken spectrum can be found in Germany, where, as in the Catalan region of Osona, frequent fog occurs on the Brocken, a peak of the Harz mountains.

The Brocken specter was observed and described by Johann Silberschlag in 1780. Since then, it has often been recorded in German literature when talking about, for example, the devil and witches.
