The BOE formalizes the appointment of Valerio as president of the Council of State

It's official. The Official State Gazette (BOE) published this Tuesday the appointment of the former socialist minister Magdalena Valerio as the new president of the Council of State, thus replacing the former vice president of the Government, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega.

After the agreement of the Council of Ministers held yesterday, Valerio's replacement at the head of this advisory body of the Executive becomes effective, only a few days after he submitted to the examination of the Constitutional Commission of the Congress of Deputies, which gave the approval good to his candidacy with the only objections of PP and Vox.

Valerio, who until leaving the seat a week ago presided over the Toledo Pact commission in Congress, replaces María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, who, although she has left the Presidency, will continue in the Council of State as a life counselor.

The new president of the Council of State - an advisory body of the Government - passed the exam of the Congress since the majority of the groups considered that she meets the criteria to occupy the position, that is to say, that she is a jurist of recognized prestige and that she has experience in state affairs.

Born in Cáceres in 1959, Magdalena Valerio was appointed Minister of Labor in the first government of Pedro Sánchez, after the 2018 motion of censure, but left office after the 2020 coalition pact with United We Can, since the 'purples' They claimed that portfolio that fell into the hands of Yolanda Díaz.

Before occupying the ministerial portfolio, Valerio held various positions in the Administration of Castilla-La Mancha, including a counselor in three different portfolios in the regional government and a socialist deputy in the regional courts.
