The Basque Country will manage the tax on large fortunes

The temporary solidarity tax for Great Fortunes, complementary to the wealth tax, will be included in the Basque economic concert as a concerted tribute of autonomous regulations after the agreement reached by the mixed commission of the economic concert in which those responsible for the Basque and Spanish haciendas.

The creation of this new temporary tax has caused concern in the Basque Government, which considers that the new tax could collide with the regional Heritage tax. The PNV came to consider the possibility of rejecting the creation of this new unique tax in a vote in Congress until it obtained guarantees of its compatibility.

Three days before the end of the year, the Basque Government has obtained this commitment in a telematic meeting in which the Minister of Finance, Pedro Azpiazu and the Minister of Finance, Maria Jesus Montero, have participated.

At this meeting, the participation of the Basque Country in the temporary energy tax and in the temporary tax on credit institutions and financial credit establishments was also agreed. The forecasts of the central government is that through the temporary taxes on energy companies and banks, the State will collect some 6,500 million euros. The Basque Government hopes to collect 6.24% of the volume of income generated by these figures in 2023 and 2024, some 400 million and it will be compensated in quota payment terms.
