The background sea of visual art in the Empordà

At the Museu de Can Mario in Palafrugell we have the exhibition Mar de fons. Artistes visuals de l'Empordà (2) until November 26. In La Vanguardia Readers' Photos we have visited it. Not long ago we were able to see the first part of the exhibition with other artists from the same area.

Then the title of the exhibition was Universal Localisms. Empordà artists (1). On this occasion, we can see works by Núria Efe, Xavier Escribà or Clara Gassiot, among other artists.

This new exhibition represents the continuation of an artistic cartography of the Empordà that began at the beginning of 2022. On this occasion, often eschewing painting or sculpture in the most traditional format that we know. All this, without leaving aside, however, the drive of the creators, as detailed in the presentation of the exhibition.

This second chapter of this cataloging of plastic arts will not be the last and definitive. Despite putting thirty more artists on the table, "there is still a significant number to complete the artistic X-ray of the Empordà."

According to the curator of the exhibition, Toni Álvarez de Arana, "the most notable thing about these two exhibitions is that they have served as a springboard to begin to establish a whole series of names in a territory that sees its artistic offering grow year after year." ".

For this reason, "it was urgent not to leave for later an organization that, once completed, will become a tool for the future, and not only for the cultural sector, since its derivatives will allow us to enrich many other initiatives directly linked to economic promotion of the region".

The project continues, from now on, more focused on unraveling the long list of resident artists to achieve their definitive representation.
