The athletics coach arrested for child abuse is a teacher in Vila-seca

The coach and president of Club Atletisme Cambrils, Pere F.B., released on charges since last Wednesday after being arrested for an alleged case of sexual abuse of minors, is a primary school teacher at the Escola Miramar in Vila-seca (Tarragonès). The 60-year-old investigated has requested and obtained sick leave, as confirmed by sources from the Department of Education to La Vanguardia, so he will not have contact with his students at the moment.

The Department of Education is investigating the case and so far "it has been found that there has been no complaint by any student or family at the educational center," the same sources explain. Among the precautionary measures imposed by the judge who is investigating the case, the head of the Investigating Court number 3 of Reus, is the prohibition of approaching less than 500 meters from the nine minor complainants, as well as the possibility of communicating with their alleged victims and approach the Club Atletisme Cambrils facilities.

The Department of Education will make available to the management of this public primary school the support of the Support Unit for Students in Situations of Violence (USAV), in case its intervention is necessary. The Generalitat launched the USAV in April 2021 to deal with situations of violence and requests for information and guidance on violence and abuse of children and adolescents throughout the educational community.

The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested the well-known athletics coach, with thirty years of experience, on Tuesday after nine girls under the age of 16 reported having been sexually touched by the coach at the Club Atletisme Cambrils facilities. The arrested man was released on Wednesday with charges, investigated for several alleged crimes of continued sexual abuse of nine minors, all girls between 12 and 15 years old.

According to the complaints of the nine victims before the Mossos, in coincident statements, "the investigated, coach of the minors, making prevail the existing relationship of superiority between the student and the coach, and with the pretext of carrying out a routine work exercise (specifically an exercise to strengthen the ankles), would have violated the sexual freedom of minors with touching; specifically rubbing their genitals against the bodies of minors.”

According to the content of the complaints of the nine minors, and as stated in the order signed by the head of the investigating court number 3 of Reus, these events "would have been taking place regularly or repeatedly since 2020 during the training sessions ”, at the Club Atletisme Cambrils facilities. There is also a previous complaint against the person being investigated for sexual abuse, in 2009, "for acts of a similar nature to the facts denounced." No further details of this case have been released.
