The Aemet warns of a drastic change in the weather: temperatures lower than normal and rains for this week

After overcoming the fourth heat wave of the summer, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) warns of a drastic change in the weather for this week, in which the meteorological autumn begins: it will be "colder than normal for the time of year in almost the entire country. Up to ten degrees cooler than usual is expected at some points.

According to Aemet, it will also be a rainy week in the extreme north of the peninsula. The rainfall can extend to other points in the north and east of the Peninsula and to the Balearic Islands. During the last days of the week, it is not ruled out that it will rain in large areas of the country, although "some uncertainty" remains in the forecast.

According to the forecast, there will be a thermal rise during the first days of the week. In fact, the minimum temperatures will increase in the interior northwest and in the extreme southwest of the peninsula, and will decrease in the southeast quadrant, north of Catalonia and the Canary Islands. In the rest, few changes. Only 32-34 degrees can be reached in the Guadalquivir and the minimum will not drop below 24-26 only in coastal points in the southeast and the Balearic Islands.

The drop in temperatures will begin on Thursday. The minimums in general will decrease, except in areas of the northeast of the peninsula where they will increase; the maximums on the rise except in the extreme southwest where they will descend.

According to the Aemet forecast, as of Friday, coinciding with the beginning of the meteorological autumn, a drastic change in weather is expected. As of September 1, the approach and passage of an Atlantic front is expected to leave “cloudy or overcast skies and precipitation, with an occasional storm, in the extreme northwest, moving throughout the day through the Cantabrian area. They are expected to be more abundant in Rías Baixas”.

In the rest of the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, slightly cloudy skies with high clouds will predominate, and some with morning low clouds in Mediterranean areas. In the afternoon abundant cloudiness of evolution in the interior of the eastern half of the peninsula with showers and storms, more likely and intense the further north, even without ruling out that they reach strong in the Pyrenees and neighboring areas to the south.

Minimum temperatures are expected to rise, except in the southwestern third where they will drop. Maximums in decline in the western half of the peninsula and on the rise in the east and the Balearic Islands. Few changes in the Canaries. It is only expected to exceed 35 degrees in the Guadalquivir.

Facing the weekend, "it could refresh again." With Aemet's "uncertainty in the prediction", it is probable that during this period the Peninsula will be under the effects of low Atlantic pressures, with the passage of associated fronts that favor a situation of instability. "Temperatures will tend to drop in the first half of the period to recover during the second," anticipates the agency.
