The 8-M in the networks: the bad guys win

Feminism is the most important social movement in Spain today. In other countries it is environmentalism or anti-racism. But in this society, the fight for women's rights and equal opportunities between men and women moves consciences and, of course, is decisive when it comes to voting. That is why March 8 should be a day of celebration and claim for all. This year is the opposite. These are being a few hours in which taking a look at social networks produces chills. It is a mixture of outrage and, in turn, abyss. A cabin from the Marx brothers that diverts attention from the true reality: there is still a long way to go and there is no time to lose.

"If PSOE and UP vote divided in Congress, the reform of the law will only be a failure of the Government and an irresponsible 'suicide' of the left," predicted the former PSOE deputy, Odón Elorza. "We are playing with fire," the former politician added in a clairvoyant thread, who can now express himself freely, because the position on any electoral list is not at stake. What he denounces is how it can be that the most feminist government in history is clubbing in the public square. Difficult to understand by the ordinary citizen.

The most muddy politics has permeated 8-M and that is bad news for the true reason for this day. The atmosphere is stale and the tweeters are overflowing with bile. Wrong, that framework is detrimental to feminism. A pity. Just remember the precedents in which mass women planned the day as a holiday and the networks burned with claims. That environment this year has not been. The bad guys win.

The person who has spoken most clearly in recent hours about this reality is the Secretary General of the UN. A global diagnosis that, in turn, could be applied, as is, to Spain. António Guterres stated that "progress in women's rights is vanishing before our eyes." "At this rate, equality will take 300 years," he stressed.

In this stark politicization of 8-M, the one who is swimming like a fish in water is the machismo denialist sector. This week has been strong. Equality is not about acronyms or colors. There is no pure feminism, there are many types. The problem is when you forget that progress can only be made by rowing as a team, in the networks and on a day-to-day basis.
