The 34th edition of the Mostra de Igualada will host 30 shows without limits or borders

From March 30 to April 2 comes the 34th edition of the Mostra de Igualada, the performing arts fair par excellence, designed for children and young people. This year they offer a contemporary, quality and innovative program with 68 functions, 30 shows and 8 premieres, in 12 different venues in the city.

In the 2023 edition, public spaces have been recovered as large-format stages for free shows open to all ages.

The themes of the functions are very diverse: from nature, to migrations, aesthetic pressure or the energy crisis. This year's image claims the world of theater as a space of freedom without borders or limits.

In turn, the Mostra de Igualada resumes the foster families project, which had been put on hold due to the pandemic. In this edition there are 30 families from the city that will receive the artists and programmers of the fair during its celebration.

Theatre, dance, circus and music are the star disciplines of a program full of contemporary and quality proposals, by the hand of 30 companies that leave their comfort zone through experimentation and risk.

Of these companies, 21 are from Catalonia, 7 from the rest of the Peninsula and 2 international, among which stand out La Mecànica, Joan Català, Leandre Clown, Ortiga, The Followers, Inspira Teatre, Mos Maiorum and Guillem Alba.

For yet another year, the Llotja, located in the Museu de la Pell in Igualada, will welcome all accredited professionals and a series of activities of interest to the sector. Likewise, the Mostra Pro Catalan Arts will also be located there, a space to promote relationships, meetings and informal gatherings between companies and other professionals.

For the first time, the theatrical works Kariguri, by Giramagic, Indestructibles, by Escenapart, and Les ales de la Carlota, by the Anna Roca theater company will be performed, and, as part of the dance, El meu monstre, by Las Dueñas del Balón .

In Catalonia, on the other hand, the dance shows Lignes de vie, de Cie. Lézards Bleus, and Cities (Architectures in Motion), by Milimetro, the immersive Idiòphone proposal, by Joan Català, and the play Quelonia and the Sea, by Teatro Gorakada.

During the press conference at the Department of Culture of the Generalitat, the mayor of Igualada, Marc Castells, announced this morning the construction of a new theatre, which will be designed by the architect Pere Puig.

Due to the 'stress' that the Ateneu is suffering, with more than 50,000 spectators a year, the City Council has opted to build another theater as a "cultural epicenter", which will house "the music school and the theater school".

Castells has ensured that this new facility will be a "quantum leap for the city" and "will be a reality in the coming years."
