Tension in the port of Tarragona due to the unloading of cereals

The labor conflict with the stevedores in the port of Tarragona, still unresolved after almost half a year, is generating serious problems in the unloading of cereal ships and threatening the supply of raw material for feed producers. A fragile supply chain, with the port of Tarragona as a strategic element, which if the conflict is not resolved could even threaten animal feed in Lleida and Aragon, where the farms are concentrated.

The president of the Port of Tarragona, Saül Garreta, has met with representatives of the five stevedoring companies that operate in Tarragona and with the representative of the Catalan Association of Composted Food Manufacturers (Asfac) to discuss the current situation of congestion and the Concern in the sector about the real risk of shortages in the supply chain of wheat and soybeans for the production of feed.

Feed manufacturers have demanded in the last few hours an urgent solution to the stowage conflict in Tarragona so as not to run out of wheat. Asfac assures that the situation is "critical" and calls for "forceful" actions from the administrations. With some twenty ships waiting to unload their products, half of them with cereals, the Port of Tarragona hopes to resolve the current saturation situation in the coming days.
