TecnoCampus presents Thinkin 3D, its additive manufacturing accelerator

The Mataró TecnoCampus has just inaugurated its additive manufacturing technology accelerator based on 3D printing. The project, called Thinkin 3D, aims to offer incubation and support services to micro-enterprises and SMEs that want to use this technology to innovate.

The new infrastructure will be located in the technology park and will have an area of approximately 700 m2. The space will be divided into three different environments: an area dedicated to business activity, designed for the installation of incubated companies; an area for dissemination to expose the products made and attract potential interested companies; and a manufacturing area where the 3D printers and the necessary equipment to carry out the manufacturing process will be installed.

The presentation of this innovation space was held this Monday, December 19. The event was attended by Josep Lluís Checa, general director of TecnoCampus; José Luis Bonet, President of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the INCYDE Foundation; Esteve Almirall, ESADE professor and director of the Center for Innovation in Cities; and David Bote Paz, mayor of Mataró.

All of them have expressed the value that the creation of an infrastructure focused on technology as innovative as 3D printing has for the business fabric of Mataró and its surroundings. “This project, carried out thanks to European funds, will favor the economic development of companies and the territory, both in Mataró and in Maresme”, affirms the general director of the TecnoCampus.

“Thinkin 3D, as part of TecnoCampus, will help the process of transforming the economy of Mataró. It will allow the traditional textile industrial fabric to be replaced by one based on education and innovation”, adds the mayor of Mataró and president of TecnoCampus.

At the inauguration of Thinkin 3D, ESADE professor and director of the Center for Innovation in Cities, Esteve Almirall, gave a presentation on the future of companies and the importance of innovation.

In his conference, he explained that currently "companies can no longer compete through production costs or greater efficiency, therefore, they must offer something different to the consumer, that is, they must innovate."

“Similarly, states should not promote technologies for specific companies or sectors, but rather develop generic technologies that help broaden the technological frontier of the entire industry,” Almirall concluded.
