Taiwan, reunification is the historical trend

Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and the Taiwan issue is entirely China's internal affair. There is only one China in the world and both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the same China. Although China has not yet been reunified, China's sovereignty and territorial integrity have never been divided, and the fact that the mainland and Taiwan belong to the same China has never changed. This is the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

The one-China principle is a universal consensus of the international community and is a basic norm of international relations. There are 181 countries around the world, including the United States, that have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of the one-China principle.

The visit to the Taiwan region of the president of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, in graceful defiance of the firm opposition and repeated efforts by China and with the approval and support of the US government. , constitutes a flagrant violation of the one-China principle, a flagrant infringement of Chinese sovereignty, a flagrant interference in China's internal affairs, a flagrant breach of the commitments made by the United States, and seriously endangers peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

In the face of this provocation and political farce, China has expressed its strong condemnation and resolute opposition, and has taken forceful measures to uphold national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The principles of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of States, stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations, are the cornerstones of modern international law and international relations. China's necessary and legitimate response is aimed not only at exercising the right to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also upholding the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, the "golden rule" of relations between states and the "protective shield" of developing countries.

China's position has won the understanding and support of the overwhelming majority of the international community: more than 170 countries have reaffirmed their adherence to the one-China policy, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has explicitly reaffirmed the UN system's adherence to the one-China principle.

Reunification is the option of the people. Dr. Sun Yat-sen, forerunner of the Chinese revolution, said: "Unification is the hope of all Chinese. If China is unified, all Chinese will enjoy a happy life; if not, all will suffer." Since the distance between the two sides of the Strait ended, the ties have grown considerably. Trade has multiplied by more than 7,000, going from 46 million dollars in 1978 to 328,340 million in 2021; the Chinese mainland has been Taiwan's largest export market for 21 consecutive years, bringing a large surplus to Taiwan every year; and the mainland is the first investment destination for Taiwanese companies outside the island, with an actual investment of 71.34 billion dollars by the end of 2021. In 2019, before the covid-19 pandemic, the personal flow exceeded 9 million passenger trips. The compatriots on both sides of the Strait are relatives united by blood ties and the same destiny. Reunification will bring more tangible benefits to compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, especially those from Taiwan.

Reunification embodies the historical trend. "Unity is strength and division creates chaos", this is the common denominator of China's thousand-year history, therefore, "seeking unity and rejecting division have been the main values of the Chinese people from all generations and are deeply embedded in the collective consciousness of the Chinese nation. 100 years ago, when China was poor and weak, Taiwan was occupied by Japan, and more than 70 years ago, China defeated the invaders and took back Taiwan. Currently, as the world's second largest economy and with significant political, economic, cultural, technological and military strength, China will not allow Taiwan to secede from the motherland.

Reunification will bring benefits to the whole world. After reunification, Taiwan will have access to the vast mainland market, more development space, greater competitiveness, more stable and seamless supply chains, and more vibrant innovative capacity. China's reunification will not harm the legitimate interests of any country or region, including economic interests in Taiwan, but will bring more development opportunities to all countries and regions, inject more positive energy into the prosperity and stability of the Asia-Pacific and the world at large, and will further contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind and to the cause of world peace, development and progress for all human beings.

Reunification is a decisive and inevitable step towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. China is willing to do everything possible and act with the utmost sincerity to achieve peaceful reunification, but it will not give up the use of force and reserves the option to take all necessary measures, not to confront Taiwan compatriots of course. , but to reject the interference of external forces and the secessionist activities of a very small number of "Taiwan independence" elements.

At present, all parties should understand the essence of the issue, jointly resist risks and provocations from the US and "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces, support and cooperate with reasonable response and countermeasures of China, to maintain peace in the region and across the Taiwan Strait.
