The authorities in Massachusetts (USA) have found the lifeless body of the former personal cook for the Obamas. Tafari Campbell was out paddle surfing Sunday afternoon when authorities were alerted after reports that a man appeared to be drowning in the lake.
The body was found yesterday, Monday, July 24, around 10 in the morning, reports the local police. The Obama family chef "was spending a few days" in the area, as explained by the Massachusetts police. The lake is located on the exclusive island of Martha's Vineyard, where Obama and many other celebrities own many mansions. However, neither the former president nor his family were in the area at the time of the incident.
The body was found about 30 meters from the shore and about eight meters deep. As explained by the local police in a statement, they received a call from "a surfer who had gotten into the water who seemed to be trying not to drown as he went in and out of the water."
Tafari Campbel, 45, had worked for the Obamas since they were in the White House. Barack and Michelle Obama have issued a joint statement mourning the sad loss of their collaborator and have assured that they join his family's mourning "for the loss of a truly wonderful man."
"We got to know him as a warm, funny and extraordinarily kind person who made our lives just a little bit warmer," the couple said. Campbell was not only with them during Obama's stay in the White House, but he also accompanied them in his private life once the former president finished his term.
