Spanish canoeing also shines in the Europeans

Spanish canoeing is still sweet this summer. After shining at the World Cups in Canada at the beginning of August, the good dynamics continued at the European Championships in Munich. On the first day of the finals held yesterday at the Olympic regatta center in the Bavarian capital, three medals were won: gold for María Corbera in the C-1 500 sprint category, silver for the K-4 1,000 team and bronze in the K-2 1,000.

Corbera used a time of 2m3s586 and climbed to the top of the podium, completed by the Ukrainian Liudmyla Luzan (2m5s096), world champion, and the Croatian Vanesa Tot (2m6s682). It is the second gold medal for the Madrid canoeist after the one she achieved in Copenhagen 2021. She also tasted silver in the C-1 200 just a few weeks ago in Canada.

His success rounded off the Spanish performance of the day. The group made up of Francisco Cubelos, Roi Rodríguez, Pedro Vázquez and Iñigo Peña managed to finish second (2m53s627) in K-4 1,000, a test competed until the end against the German boat. In addition, the Catalan Laia Pèlachs and the Basque Begoña Lazkano took the bronze of the K-2 1,000, only surpassed by the boats from Hungary and Poland, respectively, with a time of 3m36s942, three seconds from the gold.
