Spain will not send Leopard tanks to Ukraine due to its state

The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, confirmed this Tuesday that finally Spain will not send to Ukraine the Leopard battle tanks that it was considering sending, since when reviewing them it has been verified that "they are in an absolutely unfortunate situation" and could pose a risk .

Speaking to the media after visiting the Army Air Evacuation Medical Unit, Robles announced that tomorrow he will visit the Ukrainian embassy "as a show of absolute solidarity between Spain and the Ukrainian people."

During the visit, Robles will have the opportunity to find out about the needs of that country in order to plan the aid, although he has insisted that the tests carried out on the Leopards, stored in Zaragoza, have determined that "they are in conditions that cannot be used and We can't give them because they would be a risk to people."

Sending Leopard to Ukraine, in coordination with other countries, was a possibility that was on the table, Robles said months ago, although he warned then that the tanks had been out of use for many years, so it was necessary to adapt them.

In tomorrow's visit to the embassy, the type of help that Spain can offer to Ukraine could be specified and that could include material prepared to face a winter that, as the minister has warned, is going to be very hard and difficult.
