One of the most claimed performances of years ago in Badalona will finally materialize. This is the start of the works to reinforce the pavement with sound-reducing and photocatalytic treatment and the complementary works on the C-31 motorway from kilometer point 208 to 215 between Sant Adrià de Besòs and Montgat. The works will begin next Tuesday, May 2.
The action, as La Vanguardia has learned, derives from the Sustainable Ferms Sector Plan prepared in 2019. The execution budget is 4,312,256.69 euros, which derives from the Innovative Public Procurement section. In this sense, the mayor of Badalona, ​​Rubén Guijarro, has expressed his satisfaction at the start of “some long-demanded works” in order to improve the quality of life “of the residents who have been suffering from the noise of the motorway for years.”
According to sources from the Catalan administration, the works will begin with the provisional marking of the works and a punctual repair campaign of the most deteriorated points that have been detected, both from the soil auscultation systems, as well as by visual inspection, through milling and replacement of the intermediate layer of the variable thickness depending on the severity of the damage, according to the official report.
As a solution for this new layer, the execution of a discontinuous bituminous mass has been planned that, on the one hand, will present a maximum of castings that will guarantee its sound-reducing capacity, estimated at 2 or 3 decibels. On the other hand, it will support the photocatalytic treatment that will be applied to fix the nitrogen oxides present in the environment and thus improve the quality of the surrounding air.
The work, in order to corroborate the forecasts and carry out a subsequent monitoring of its behavior, contemplates the realization of a test section with the mixture with sound-reducing capacity and photocatalytic treatment, as well as a reference section with conventional mixture without photocatalytic treatment.
The execution of the works will be completed with the painted signaling of the road markings, as well as the renewal of the vertical signaling, restoration of the expansion joints of the structures and the renewal of part of the metallic containment systems.
The works, with the exception of the tasks related to vertical signage, beacons and fenders, will be carried out at night, between the night of Sunday to Monday and Thursday to Friday in the time slot between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. 06:00 a.m., for the northbound road and from 10:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. in the lanes located on the left, in the southbound access to Barcelona, ​​traffic being fully restored at 06:00 a.m.
The traffic restrictions will consist of cutting one or two lanes of the road, depending on the needs of the work, facilitating traffic in at least one lane and on the road towards Barcelona the use of the Bus lane will be allowed. It is open to all users who circulate during the hours established by the works, except for those areas where there is a detour to the side roads.
All traffic impacts will be reported in advance, subject to the works plan and the possibility that the weather on these dates allows the works to be carried out. The estimated duration of the works is three months.
