Sorigué invests 190 million in sustainability projects

The construction company Sorigué will invest 190 million in the next 5 years in projects linked to sustainability. The company chaired by Ana Vallés explained that the largest investment will be made in CLD by its environmental services company, of 75 million euros, awarded cleaning services in three districts of Barcelona, in installing photovoltaic plants and in transforming its fleet into electric vehicles. The company will also inaugurate a waste management plant in September to serve the Barcelona area.

The company wants to focus its inorganic growth on this area: in 2021 it bought Ecotelia, an engineering company specialized in renewable energies in La Rioja and is negotiating two new acquisitions, which could close after the summer.

Sources close to the CEO, Luis Villena, explained that the company is also investing in start-ups linked to decarbonization. Thus, it has entered the capital of Alterity, a firm that develops and manufactures sustainable lithium batteries, with a system that extends the useful life of its components to the maximum. The family group also participates in the energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable mobility fund of the venture capital manager Suma Capital.

Sorigué shot up his portfolio and his profitability last year, after overcoming the impact of covid. The company explained that consolidated sales reached 655.3 million euros, an increase of 7% compared to 2019, while gross profit soared 79% to 17.2 million. Operating profit or EBITDA, meanwhile, grew by 19% to 34.8 million.

The firm from Lleida has focused its efforts in recent years on growing outside of Catalonia with the offer of sustainable and ecological urban services. Thus, among its largest urban contracts, the conservation of green infrastructure in the city of Parla stands out, amounting to four million euros. Another of the group's large urban contracts is the maintenance of the Barcelona cemeteries, a contract worth three million euros per year. In total, the group's business portfolio amounted to 1,347 million euros at the end of the year, 79% more than last year.

The company, on the other hand, has not established itself outside of Spain "nor do we have plans for it," they assured. "We have an international presence through the sale of hydraulic equipment, especially to Latin America and the Middle East, but it is not significant and we do not have a presence."
