Social Rights ratifies the closure of the Reus Senior Citizen's Home after receiving the technical report

The Department of Social Rights has ratified the closure of the Residence for the Elderly in Reus (Tarragona), after receiving the technical report corroborating the building's structural deficiencies.

The general director of Provisión de Servicios, Maria Rosa Pons, and the director of the territorial services of Social Rights in Tarragona, Mònica Alabart, have notified the workers and the families of the users of the center this Monday.

IAC-CATAC has shown its disappointment, arguing that the document "only includes the history of deficiencies that the property has had since 2004", but without specifying that there is an "imminent risk".

"We are as we were at the beginning," union sources have stated in the absence of solutions proposed by the Government.

One of the center's workers and member of the territorial committee of Social Rights of the IAC-CATAC in Tarragona, Carmen Mesas, has stated that with the presentation of the report "the negligence on the part of the Department to make any type of investment in this has been demonstrated." home". "The center is not in such bad condition to make us leave now," she stressed.

Mesas has also criticized that Social Rights has not confirmed when they will have to leave the equipment. "Nothing has been clear to us," said Mesas, who added that "they are as they were at the beginning."

For all these reasons, he stated that "the fight continues" and that on November 29 they will return to the Parliament, where they will "demand explanations" from the general secretary of Drets Socials, Oriol Amorós.

For her part, the president of the territorial committee of Social Drets of CCOO in Tarragona, Glòria Boqué, added that the technical report does not include "neither data nor studies" and that "it only relates what has been happening during these years."

Parallel to the case of Reus, the Town Council of Les Borges del Camp, in the Baix Camp (Tarragoina) is also looking for a solution to avoid losing the old people's residence in the municipality. According to Mayor Joaquim Calatayud, the Residence Mare de Déu de la Riera is in a "complicated" state and needs a "millionaire investment" to adapt the equipment to the new regulations.
