Sánchez extends the changes in the PSOE to the entire structure of the executive and parliamentary groups

The formal call for the meeting of the federal committee of the PSOE for next Saturday in Ferraz, sent this Wednesday to all its members, has confirmed Pedro Sánchez's intention to expand the scope of the initially planned remodeling of the party, after the deputy secretary General of the formation, Adriana Lastra, announced her resignation last Monday and precipitated all events. The call, still signed by the secretary of organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, incorporates the debate on the "structure of the federal executive commission and parliamentary groups" into the agenda.

In other words, the forecast is that Sánchez executes relays both in the leadership of the party and in the leadership of the socialist groups in Congress and the Senate. The leader of the PSOE could thus undertake new appointments to replace Lastra in the deputy general secretary of the party, but also to appoint other managers for the organization secretary, a position in which Santos Cerdán replaced José Luis Ábalos after his abrupt dismissal in July of 2021, and for the spokesperson for Ferraz, a position held by Felipe Sicilia since the last federal congress of the PSOE, held in Valencia in October last year.

The changes will therefore also affect the leadership of the socialist parliamentary groups, which could also affect the current spokesman in Congress, Héctor Gómez, who in September 2021 relieved Lastra in office.

Uncertainty is still installed in the PSOE, since many of the leaders who could be harmed by these replacements say that they have not received any indication in this regard so far. And some wonder how it can benefit to prolong during these days the unknown about the extensive remodeling that Sánchez would be designing together with his team closest to him in Moncloa.

After the socialist debacle at the polls in Andalusia, on June 19, Sánchez is already in electoral mode, in any case, to try to take flight in the municipal and regional elections of May next year, which will also be the prelude of the general ones scheduled for December 2023. Good proof of this is that another of the items on the agenda of the federal committee on Saturday plans to establish the call and calendar for the primaries and the process of preparing candidacies for the different institutions .

At the moment, everything is speculation in the PSOE and pools about the leaders who will gain prominence with the changes, in many cases, however, in an interested way since Sánchez and his closest team in Moncloa insist on keeping a rigorous silence. All eyes, in any case, agree on the veteran Patxi López and the current Minister of Education, Pilar Alegría, among other leaders, as rising figures in the party, although it is not yet known in which positions of responsibility. “We still don't know anything, we will be the last”, some of them resign themselves.
