Sánchez does not see the majority for the reform of the crime of sedition

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has warned that there is not a sufficient majority for the reform of the crime of sedition in the current Penal Code.

Sánchez, who this Monday ends his trip to the Balkans in Albania, where he held a press conference, stated, in response to questions from journalists, that the Government is fully willing to reform the Penal Code to adapt it to the European legal system as long as that they add the necessary votes to achieve that objective, a majority that, he has said, "at the moment does not exist."

Sánchez has also responded to a question about the appointment of the magistrates of the General Council of the Judiciary and has said that the Executive will appoint the candidates at the time and that he is convinced that the Council will also appoint its own in a timely manner.

At this point, he has once again reproached the PP for keeping the renewal of the Council blocked. "A party that claims to be constitutional must comply every day."

At the press conference, shared with the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, Sánchez was also asked why Spain does not recognize Kosovo as an independent country. Sánchez has said that “we great friends also have discrepancies – he has said in reference to the Albanian government – and this is one of them. We believe that a unilateral declaration of independence violates international law. We cannot be in favor of this recognition. That does not mean that we do not recognize the work of the special envoy and that we are not in favor of dialogue.
