An armed man broke into a school in the city of Izhevsk, capital of the Russian Republic of Udmurtia (on the Volga) on Monday. As a consequence, at least nine people were killed: five children, two guards and two teachers; and 20 were injured. The deceased students were hit by a bullet and one was stabbed.

Teachers and students were immediately evacuated, according to witnesses to the events on various Telegram channels.

The man, whose identity and motives for committing the massacre are unknown at the moment, dressed in a black suit and broke into one of the classrooms of the educational center. The director had time to lock herself in her office with a teenager who had been injured. The attacker barricaded himself on the second floor before the police could neutralize him.

Finally, the man ended up committing suicide. "The policemen have found the body of the man who had opened fire. According to our information, he has committed suicide," the Russian Interior Ministry said. Shortly before, the regional governor, Alexánder Brechálov, confirmed in a video that among the fatalities there were children and a security guard, the first one he killed by breaking into the school.
