The National Police have arrested six people of Spanish nationality for their alleged participation in the fixing of a Copa del Rey match played on December 2, 2021 between Huracán Melilla and Levante, which ended 0-8. The researchers verified 77 bets in Melilla gambling halls, with a bet amount of 6,000 euros and whose prize amounted to 14,000 euros. In addition, there was a massive reception of bets in favor of the visiting team electronically.

As reported this Friday by the General Directorate of Police through a press release, an investigation by the National Police, with the collaboration of the Global Betting Market Investigation Service (SIGMA) of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and La Liga , has culminated in the arrest of six people whose identity has not been disclosed.

The department that depends on the Ministry of the Interior has detailed that those arrested are accused of "their alleged participation in the fixing of a Copa del Rey match" between the people of Melilla and the Levantine supporters. "Those arrested bet, online and in person, on a specific result in relation to the match played on December 2, 2021 between Huracán Melilla and Levante FC. The approximate fraud amounted to 30,000 euros," he specified.

The police department has indicated that the agents received an alert from the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling about the placing of massive bets in relation to that meeting, both online and in person in gambling halls in the autonomous city of Melilla. "Following the complaints filed by various bookmakers and La Liga, and after receiving information from the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the National Police Center for Integrity in Sports and Betting (CENPIDA) of the National Police initiated a complex investigation that culminated in the arrest of six citizens of Spanish nationality", indicated the General Directorate of Police.

In this regard, he pointed out that "investigators verified 77 bets in Melilla gambling halls, with a bet amount of about 6,000 euros and a total prize amount of 14,000 euros." In addition, online, "there was a massive reception of bets and suspicious tickets related to the sporting event, so that in a period of three hours the entire bet was generated for a specific result, being in most cases a favorable result." of the visiting team".

The information about these arrests comes one day after it was revealed that a complaint from LaLiga to the National Police Center for Integrity in Sports and Gambling (CENPIDA) opened the investigation into the alleged match-fixing of the first round of the Cup. del Rey CD Huracán Melilla-Levante UD, played in December 2021 and ended 0-8.

LaLiga received information from an anonymous confidant through the complaint email integrity@laliga.es created in 2015 by the Security and Integrity department.

After this information, LaLiga denounced the facts before CENPIDA and an investigation was opened in the Investigating Court number 2 of Melilla and in which statements were taken from six people, one of them a former player of the CD Huracán Melilla.
