Shameful resolution of the Parliament of Catalonia

This past Friday, in the Parliament of Catalonia, a majority approved a resolution presented by ERC, En Comú Podem and the CUP and backed by the PSC, with the abstention of PP, Cs and Vox and the rejection of Junts per Cat, in the indicating that the system applied by Israel towards the Palestinians is contrary to international law and that it can be considered a crime of apartheid.

This resolution is truly outrageous, without any basis or knowledge of the real situation and is based only on falsehoods and irrational hatred and a sick obsession towards the only Jewish state in the world and the only democracy in the area, constantly threatened by dictatorships and terrorist groups that want to impose values contrary to freedom, democracy, LGTBI rights, the right to free elections or the use of child soldiers, among others.

The jihadist terrorist organization Hamas, responsible for hundreds of attacks and assassinations and for not respecting any rights, has congratulated the Parliament of Catalonia for said resolution, and which has been the first and only parliament at European level to cross out Israel's policy of apartheid .

But what is most annoying about this resolution is the clear trivialization of what apartheid really was in South Africa, and that is very serious. What is happening in Israel today has absolutely nothing to do with what happened in South Africa a few decades ago.

It is unheard of how a people like the Catalans, with all the intolerance of which it has been a victim throughout its history, can have political representatives who approve such a discriminatory resolution that also incites hatred of Jews. There is a paradox that this same parliamentary foreign commission approved by majority on January 16, 2020 resolution 725/XII in which it was agreed that anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism. And anti-Zionism is not criticizing the Israeli government in power, a common practice of many Jews and Israelis. Anti-Zionism is to deny the legitimacy of Israel to exist, or brand it as a Nazi or apartheid regime.

Anyone who has lived or been in Israel knows that the Israeli Arab minority, which represents 21% of the total population, enjoys the same rights as any Jewish citizen. There are Israeli Arabs who occupy important positions in the Government, the judiciary and have a decisive participation in the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament. All Arabs in Israel agree that the country in the Middle East where their rights are most respected is Israel. The accusation of apartheid does not stand anywhere.

Catalan Jews (and quite a few non-Jews as well) are seriously concerned about the profound ignorance that exists about what is really happening in Israel due to the existing misinformation and the rise of obsessions, hatred, prejudice and false stereotypes. But the worst thing is that they are now alarmed by the institutionalization of anti-Semitism in Catalonia.
