The Lleida Court has sentenced Merzhak T. to 22 years in prison for the murder of his roommate, in the Cappont neighborhood of Lleida, stabbing him 17 times.
The sentence considers it proven, according to the verdict of the popular jury, that between 5:45 p.m. on September 18 and 12:24 a.m. on September 19, 2020, while his partner was resting in bed, the accused, born in Algeria and nationalized French , “guided by the desire to end the life” of J.S, a man from Arbeca, he stabbed him seventeen times.”
After the attack, Merzhak T made a video call to his brother living in France in which he showed the lifeless body of J. S. It was the murderer's brother who notified the Mossos de Esquadra. The body was located in the house and Merzhak T was arrested two days later in Bordeaux.
At the time of the murder, the sentence indicates, the accused had his faculties slightly impaired by alcohol consumption.
The sentence also condemns him to compensate the mother of the deceased with 43,880.41 euros and each of his three brothers, with 16,455.15 and he has been acquitted of two crimes of threat.
In the trial, which began on October 3, the Prosecutor's Office requested 31 years in prison, 25 for a crime of murder with treachery and cruelty and three for two crimes of threatening his two brothers. The Prosecutor's Office stated that the accused had called his brothers in France by videoconference to ask them for money and that when they refused, in order to intimidate them, he showed them the lifeless body of his roommate.
