Schism in the ANC over the civic independence list

The pro-independence civic list, the star proposal of the roadmap that the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) approved last year, is on its way to causing an implosion in the entity. For now there is already a crisis, after imposing its president, Dolors Feliu, the debate on January 28 on the creation of a working group to begin to forge this candidacy for the next elections to Parliament. But not only is there a crisis, there is also a schism and a dissident group called Indesinenter has been formed within the leadership of the ANC.

This critical group criticizes that after the failure of the president - the first steps for that civic list were rejected by 28 votes in favor and 29 against for a vote that required two thirds for it to be approved - it has not been possible to redirect "the serious internal crisis that surfaced that day".

Broadly speaking, critics consider that Feliu makes a "biased reading" of the roadmap and claim that many other issues must be addressed before launching the civic list. Specifically, they also ask to go step by step and that a working group be created, but "to initiate a debate internally and among the bases of the unilateral independence movement as broad as possible on the strategic framework for the civic-institutional political attack to make independence effective. Thus, said debate should deal with "what would be the minimum conditions to promote a civic list (...) as one of the tools of this attack". That is, first, an analysis; and then, if necessary, the creation of this candidacy. A previous step that the president of the ANC did not contemplate. Efforts should not focus, according to the group, on the creation of the list.

But in addition, this critical group rejects the way of acting of Feliu and the permanent committee of the association. As they say, their two documents -one of them an amendment to the entire proposal of the leader of the entity- were not admitted for the debate on January 28. "We are national secretaries and secretaries who are against the political orientation led by the current majority of the permanent committee of the national secretariat in relation to compliance with the road map."

They also point out that ten minutes before the plenary session began, Feliu dismissed the national secretary previously chosen as president of the Table, to appoint herself as president of the Table. A dismissed member who, according to reports, was in favor of taking into account the opinion of the ANC's legal management and security commission, which was committed to including its two documents in the debate.

With the rejection of the vote proposed by Feliu, this group considers that "the bad practices and irregularities exhibited by the president during the plenary session" were also denounced. They denounce the "centralization, authoritarianism and abuse of power of the current majority of the permanent committee." And they criticize that despite the result, the ANC officially sent its partners a statement in which it maintains "the Assembly's commitment to the provisions of its roadmap" and that the civic list "is fully valid."

However, critics propose to redirect the situation by establishing what the priorities are. Political advocacy, confrontation and social mobilization are inseparable, they point out, and call for a recomposition of the Assembly's permanent committee, which includes, among others, the president and vice president of the entity, Jordi Pesarrodona.
