Santiago Zabala: "The best thing about Messi in this World Cup is the card for protesting"

Santiago Zabala (Buenos Aires, 1975) applauds the new version of Messi, closer to his great idol Maradona. Along with five other authors, he published last year Phenomenology of Maradona, an essential book to try to better understand the 'ten' from different fields, also from philosophy.

Are we facing the most Maradonian Messi?

I agree. He had to get that anger out of him. To show his involvement he had to show us his emotions in the most emotional competition there is.

Already the desired leader?

His sporting ability is known. For me, the best thing he has done in this World Cup is to receive that yellow card for protesting against the Netherlands. A leader makes mistakes, loses patience. I believe in him because of his insistence, not because of his quality.

Are Messi and Maradona incomparable?

Unfortunately we have to compare them. The talent is similar, but Diego "brought something else", as Batistuta said. That's why he became a symbol. He took sides. That we do not know Messi's political opinions is indicative. Why can't he express them? We all have them.

FIFA insists on not mixing politics and sport.

They have always lived together and will continue to do so. The silence of the teams and players speaks more than what they say. Neutrality does not exist.

Neither with the VAR?

Behind technology there is always someone with an ideology. Where is the mischief? You have to accept that it is part of the game, of an event between people. They want to control everything.

The controversy does not end.

Too much is imposed on us under the banner of neutrality. The VAR reaches politics. That's why Meloni wins or VOX goes up.
