Sabater will leave the CUP in Parliament if she is elected mayor of Badalona again

Until the municipal elections are held, at the end of May next year, the former mayor of Badalona, Dolors Sabater, will maintain her act as a deputy in Parliament. With the results in hand and concurring with her party, Guanyem Badalona, her future will change and it is certain that if she is elected again to lead the City Council, Sabater will leave the seat she occupies in the Catalan Chamber as a CUP deputy , as confirmed by Guanyem to La Vanguardia. The formation, on the other hand, must still deliberate what would be the steps to follow if she only returns to the Consistory, but as a mere councilor.

Despite the fact that Guanyem Badalona's code of ethics does not yet include any incompatibility due to duplication of positions, the formation is clear that if Sabater returns to the mayor's office, he must "dedicate himself fully" to his new role. It is an opinion that the anti-capitalist also shares, who led the list of couperos for the regional elections of February 14, 2021 and who currently chairs the CUP group in the Parliament of Catalonia.

The former mayor announced this afternoon in the Plaza de la Vila de Badalona her intention to run in the elections on May 28, 2023. She will try to "put the City Council at the service of the people and the transformation that the city needs." Her candidacy is , as he has said, "the best recipe to stop fascism and racism" and has stated that he is confident of being able to turn Badalona into "a beacon of rights for everyone".

Sabater was at the head of the municipal government from 2015 to 2018. That year a motion of censure promoted by the PSC and supported by the PP and Ciudadanos left her without the position, and ended with the socialist Álex Pastor as the new mayor.

It will be Sabater's third candidacy in Badalona, consecutively, after having also presented himself in 2019 in coalition with ERC. She came second, behind Xavier García Albiol's PP, and the mayor's office fell back into the hands of the PSC.

The CUP and Guanyem allied themselves for the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia in 2021 with Sabater as the most visible face. The result was satisfactory: the couperos obtained nine deputies, five more than they had previously and only one seat away from repeating the success of the September 2015 elections, when the candidacy led by Antonio Baños and Anna Gabriel obtained ten seats.
