Russia bombs infrastructure in Ukraine again and causes three deaths in Kyiv

The Russian Army has launched a new attack against infrastructure in Kyiv, where several explosions have been recorded. "One of the capital's infrastructures has been hit. Stay in the shelters. The air alert will continue," the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said in a message on his Telegram account.

Ukrainian authorities issued an all-Ukrainian air strike alert and Ukrainian media report air defense systems in action in various parts of the country.

Reuters correspondents in and around Kyiv report hearing several loud explosions and air defense missiles flying over the capital.

Klitschko did not give details of what infrastructure had been affected. But Russian forces have increasingly focused on infrastructure critical to Ukraine in recent weeks following setbacks on the battlefield.

Russian attacks have left up to 10 million Ukrainians without electricity for long periods of time. The operator of Ukraine's national power grid said Wednesday that more emergency blackouts would be needed across the country.

Ukrainian officials said a newborn baby was killed on Wednesday in a Russian missile strike that hit a maternity hospital in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Vilniansk.
