Russia attacks Kyiv again after several weeks of tense calm in the Ukrainian capital

"Several explosions in the Darnytsky and Dniprovsky districts of the city. The services are putting out" the fire. This has been the concise message from the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, confirming that Moscow has once again placed the Ukrainian capital in its sights after several weeks of tense calm.

The Russian attack was endorsed minutes later by the Army General Staff, who stated that "the aggressor continues to launch missiles and carry out air strikes against the military and civil infrastructure of our country, especially in Kyiv."

Rescue services have moved to the affected places. But the first balance confirmed by Klitschko himself rules out fatalities and only one injured person is mentioned.

This is the strongest attack Kyiv has suffered in recent weeks. The capital was the target of intense Russian attacks at the beginning of the war but, subsequently, the Russian offensive has been concentrated in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Something that analysts interpreted as a review of the goals pursued by Moscow.

This is how the Ukrainian people woke up this Sunday when all eyes were on Severodonetsk, a city located in the east of the country and that Moscow is trying to control by considering it strategic within its military intervention.

This eastern region has been under the partial control of the pro-Russian separatists since 2014, and Moscow hopes to conquer it completely after the onslaught of the last few days: "Ukrainian army units, which suffered critical losses during the fighting (up to 90% in several units), are retreating towards Lyssytchansk", a nearby town, the Russian Defense Ministry has celebrated.

Russia and Ukraine have carried out an exchange of bodies of soldiers killed in the war on the front line of Zaporizhia after reaching an agreement for it.

The exchange, which Russia has not reported, was carried out on June 2, following the so-called formula of "160 by 160" - that is, 160 corpses on each side - as reported this Saturday by the Ministry of Reintegration of the Territories Temporarily Busy. In addition to that portfolio, the Ministry of Defense, the National Intelligence Directorate and other organizations participated in the operation.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian authorities reported today that 31,050 Russian soldiers have died since the invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, a figure not confirmed by another source.
