Rufus Rufus Wainwright, Brad Meldhau and Ara Malikian, in the Girona Auditorium

The singer and composer Rufus Wainwright, the pianist Brad Meldhau in trio format or the performance, for the first time in Catalonia, of Lady Blackbird, the artistic nickname of the American vocalist considered the new lady of jazz Marley Munroe, are some of the highlights of the winter season of the Girona Auditorium.

An eclectic program, which includes thirty proposals, among which names of international figures are mixed with emerging artists, and which kicked off on January 20 with the performance of the Catalan Núria Graham, who chose Girona to launch her new Cyclamen disc.

A season that will feature the award-winning choreographer and dancer Sol Picó as a guest artist, who will star in three shows in which the public will be able to learn about her different scenic registers.

Beyond the performances by Wainwright and Meldhau, in what will be their only concerts that they will give in Catalonia, the Auditori will also host performances by other great names on the international scene such as the Lebanese violinist Ara Malikian or Glenn Leonard, who was main tenor of the group The Temptations between 1975 and 1983 and who, with his new accompanists, will offer a tribute concert (the only one planned in Spain) to that mythical group whose hits include My girl, Papa was a rolling stone or a very popular version of the Silent night Christmas carol.

The presence of the Brazilian Adriana Calcanhotto also stands out, in her only concert in Catalonia, to present her latest album Errante.

Among the names of classical music on the programme, Jordi Savall stands out, who last Sunday conducted Mozart's Requiem with his orchestra Le Concert des Nations

The pianist Javier Perianes, the Japanese violinist Midori, who will perform together with the Franz Shubert Filharmonia, with a program that will explore Tchaikovsky and Brahms, the Cobla Ciutat de Girona and the Gio Symphonia symphony orchestra join the classical music program.

In the modern music section, Blaumut will celebrate its ten years of experience with a concert in symphonic format that will bring together 50 musicians on stage; the Barcelona quintet El Pony Pisador will present the songs from his new album, the co-founder and one of the composers of Txarango, Sergi Carbonell, will offer his new solo songs for the first time. Last Friday Ernest Crusats (La Iaia) presented his album La font gelada.

Finally, children's audiences will also have two successful proposals: the new show by El Pot Petit and a concert, with 70 musicians on stage who will delight the audience with the best soundtracks from Disney movies, from Peter Pan to Pocahontas going through the 101 Dalmatians.
