Rodri renews with Manchester City until 2027

Rodrigo Hernández, midfielder for the Spanish soccer team, has signed a new contract with the Premier League champion, Manchester City, which will keep him linked to the English club until 2027. He was already linked to the team until 2024, but this renewal will go accompanied by a salary increase that will place him among the highest paid players in the squad, only behind Kevin De Bruyne and newcomer Erling Braut Haaland.

The three-year contract extension comes after City brought in Englishman Kalvin Phillips in midfield to replace veteran Fernandinho, who left for Brazil's Athletico Paranaense on a free transfer. Rodri, 26, arrived at City in 2019 from Atlético de Madrid, in a deal valued at around 62.70 million euros according to Transfermarkt. With the British team he won the Premier League twice, the Carabao Cup twice and the Community Shield once. In these three years that he has been in the team, he played a total of 151 official games, in which he scored 13 goals and distributed 9 assists.

"We have been successful since I arrived, which makes me feel very proud. But, to be honest, this success has made me want more. When you start winning big titles you don't want to stop," Rodri told the English club's website. "City offers me the best options to continue winning titles and for this reason I am delighted to be here longer," he added.

City's director of football, Txiki Begiristain, was delighted to have sealed the deal. "He is the perfect example of what a professional footballer has to be: his attitude is fantastic, he lives the right way, he takes care of himself and trains hard every day. It is a dream for a manager and I know Pep [Guardiola] loves it. work with him," he said. "He has improved a lot since he arrived. For me, Rodrigo is now one of the best in the world in his position," he added.

Since joining Manchester City and his undisputed status under Guardiola, his involvement with the Spanish team has also grown. Important in the European Championship played in 2021 as a replacement for Sergio Busquets, the former Atlético player already has 33 caps and is running as the undisputed starter when the FC Barcelona player decides to pass the baton. His performance continues to improve, and this year he has earned a place in the ideal eleven of the Premier League. He is already recognized as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, and City have been quick to tie him down until 2027.
