The plenary session of the Valencia City Council, with 17 votes from the PP and Vox against the 16 from PSPV and Compromís, has officially approved the appointment of Rita Barberá as honorary mayor of the city. The decision has been highly criticized by the opposition. After a tense debate, in which socialist spokesperson Sandra Gómez and Compromís spokesperson Papi Robles criticized the appointment. The socialist spokesperson has indicated that this distinction cannot be given to the former mayor because "the entire family - of the honoree - is being investigated in the Azud case" while warning that there is a judicial investigation underway "to clarify the origin of a million euros that went to his campaign".
