Rescued 30 frogs from a private pool in Boadilla by forest agents

Some thirty specimens of common frog (pelophylax perezi) have been returned to the Aulencia river, a protected natural space, in the regional park of the Guadarrama area, after finding them living freely in a private pool in Boadilla del Monte.

The owners of a single-family home found the amphibians in a pool that had been without water for almost 15 years. "When they went to prepare it for the summer they have encountered the frogs," explains Miguel Higueras, head of the operation of the forestry agent corps of the Community of Madrid. To which he adds: "It is common that at this time of year when citizens go to prepare their pools, species of this type appear on occasion, such as frogs, gallipatos or newts... These last two species are amphibians with tails", he recounts. They are created in micro spaces in ponds and amphibians reproduce and live in unthinkable places.

"The 30 frogs found belong to a protected species, so a comfortable habitat had to be found nearby for them to continue living," says the expert.

When the neighbors came across the discovery, they notified 112 and the protocol was activated so that the forest agents could proceed to their rescue. Finally, on Wednesday they were returned to a natural environment. "These are amphibians in regression, that is, there are fewer and fewer of them, so they are protected species," Higueras emphasizes. Hence, the officials, after accessing the glass, were rescuing each frog one by one. Later, the release took place in the Aulencia river, a place that meets the necessary conditions, since there are already specimens of the same species.
