The new waste collection boxes that will be installed in the Ciutat Vella district are more ergonomic and practical and prevent the entry of bulky items. They have a vertical opening with a round handle and a pedal to open them, additional protection has been applied to prevent corrosion and rust and they have a sensor to detect the filling level of the container and improve management. To inform about the replacement of these containers, informative actions will be carried out with the neighborhood.
Replacement of the litter bins and two pilot tests
All the bins in the district will be changed and the models will be homogenized in order to increase waste collection through the bins by 8%. In total, 1,504 litter bins will be renewed with two models, some with a capacity of 70 liters and ones with a larger capacity of 220 liters, in points where there is more activity in public spaces. 20 new bins will also be placed in the area to reinforce collection in spaces with more intensive use.
At the same time, a couple of pilot tests will be launched with litter bins adapted to the characteristics of Ciutat Vella. On the one hand, 15 litter bins will be installed in the Plaza de la Gardunya with a side opening to prevent seagulls from emptying them. On the other hand, 10 large-capacity litter bins with self-compaction systems will be placed in points of the district where intensive use of space is made, such as Avenida de la Catedral, La Rambla or Plaza del Mar.
