Renfe limits the reservations of free Medium Distance tickets to four per day

Renfe has put an end to massive reservations of Medium Distance journeys to prevent trains from going half empty and since last weekend it only allows the same user to book four journeys per day, two outbound and two return trips, with the exception of that the return can only be booked when the outward journey has been made.

This measure tries to contain a practice that was already common when the tickets were not free, but that has now multiplied. The possibility of reserving all timetables meant that numerous users made numerous reservations, especially for return journeys, in order to take the train that best suited them. This caused many schedules to be blocked and at some times the trains had a low occupancy rate, with special incidence on some lines.

The company points out that the limitation to four journeys is due to the desire not to harm users who return home at noon or those who make more than one daily journey in Medium Distance.

The subscription is free, but to acquire it you must pay a deposit of 20 euros. If it is done by credit or debit card, this amount will be returned to your card automatically at the end of the four months of validity of the subscription, provided that the minimum of 16 trips provided for by the regulations to guarantee its free of charge is made. If the payment of the deposit has been made in cash, a specific request for its return must be completed.
