Red Eléctrica demolishes the towers of the 132 Kv line between Juià and Santa Llogaia that compacted with MAT

The Red Eléctrica has already begun to demolish the towers of the Girondin lines that were still standing after their layout was compacted with that of the MAT. It is the 132 Kv line that from Juaià (Girona) reaches Santa Llogaia de Àlguema (Alt Empordà). The works to remove this line, which has 64 towers, began in March and, during these months, Red Eléctrica had been doing the preliminary work and now the company has already begun to remove the metal structures from the landscape. The towers are being lifted out with the help of a crane and are crumbled on site with a large clamp. Then the concrete supports that supported them are removed.

The MAT project entailed the disappearance of three lines, which were passed compacted with the 400 Kv towers. In total, these routes totaled more than 90 kilometers and corresponded to a 220 Kv line, which runs from Vic and connects with Sant Julià de Ramis passing through Bescanó; to one of 110 Kv that ran through Les Guilleries and the one of 132 Kv that led from Juià to Santa Llogaia d'Àlguema.

In the summer of 2018, Red Eléctrica already began to dismantle the 220 Kv line. Of all the ones that had to disappear, this was the one that added the most kilometers and the most towers. And, shortly after, the company also did the same with the 110 Kv line, which ran from Sant Hilari to Bescanó.

This March 2023, after years of delay, Red Eléctrica began to dismantle the last of the lines that had been compacted with the MAT. The works to remove this 132 KV line, among others, had been delayed because before removing it, the Endesa substation in the Santa Llogaia electrical park had to be finished, where there was a MAT converter station, another 400 Kv substation and the one that feeds the AVE.

The 132 Kv line, which is already beginning to be history, totaled twenty kilometers. During these months, the operators have been doing the previous work, such as removing the old cables, and now, yes, they have already begun to remove the metal structures from the landscape. After separating them from the concrete supports with the help of a crane, the towers are left on the ground. There, an excavator with a grapple shreds them into scrap metal, which is removed from the site by trucks.

Finally, the workers also take off their shoes and remove the buried concrete blocks that supported the towers. In total, 64 supports distributed for a dozen municipal areas have to be withdrawn. In Gironès, in addition to Juià, also Cervià de Ter and Viladasens, and in Alt Empordà, before reaching Santa Llogaia, the line runs through Saus, Camallera and Llampaies, Bàscara, Vilaür and Garrigàs.

According to Red Eléctrica, the works do not affect the electricity supply in the area because, in fact, this 132 Kv extension was already integrated into the MAT axis when the interconnection was built and the line that will now disappear had already been left out of service. The works, in total, have an expected duration of twelve months and will last until March 2024.
