Real Madrid and Barça, at the level of the Premier in income from audiovisual rights

Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, advanced it, but today the governing body of the competition has finished confirming it by publishing the list of income of all the First and Second teams for television rights. Real Madrid and Barça lead the income ranking for another year, but not only that, but they are on a par with the best teams in the Premier.

LaLiga provided this Thursday the data corresponding to the 2021-2022 season, in which it distributed a total of 1,585.40 million euros in LaLiga Santander, with Real Madrid in first place with 160.85 million, followed by Barcelona with 160, 13 and Atlético de Madrid with 130.31.

These figures are somewhat lower than those received last season by Real Madrid and Barcelona, which obtained 163 and 165.6 million, respectively, and grow in the case of Atlético de Madrid, which received 130.1.

The updated data adds the income and obligations resulting from the application of the agreement of the LaLiga General Assembly of December 10, 2021 Impulso-CVC Plan, by which the clubs transfer 9% of the value of their audiovisual rights for 50 years to the investment fund in exchange for 2,000 million euros and that Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Club and Ibiza did not subscribe.

In LaLiga SmartBank the total amount was 198.95 million and the largest amounts were received by Eibar (28.58), Valladolid (23.63) and Huesca (16.52).

LaLiga explained that revenue from the marketing of audiovisual rights has grown by 15% since the 2016/2017 season (from 1,390 million to 1,601) compared to the "Premier League", which has increased by 5% in the same period (from 2,398 million to 2,536).

According to the organization, this is "a good figure taking into account that in the United Kingdom the number of subscribers to pay television is twice that of Spain (15 million subscribers compared to more than 6.4 million in our country), the number of subscribers to OTT platforms is also more than double in the United Kingdom than in Spain (36 million subscribers compared to 14 million in our country), in addition to having a greater number of inhabitants, households and a higher level of per capita income than in Spain".

Last season LaLiga distributed 1,444.7 million euros among LaLiga Santander clubs -27 more than in the previous season- and 160.5 among LaLiga SmartBank clubs.

The distribution of the amounts is regulated in Royal Decree-Law 5/2015, on urgent measures on the commercialization of audiovisual content exploitation rights, which establishes the distribution system based on the sports results of the last five seasons and of the social implantation of the clubs.

The latter is determined according to the following criteria: one third for season ticket and box office receipts for the last five seasons and the other two thirds for their participation (audiences) in the generation of resources from the commercialization of television broadcasts.

The figures published by LaLiga include the adjustments for the Plan Impulso-CVC agreement and the obligations provided for in Royal Decree-Law 5/2015 -3% to the CSD (47.64 million), 2% to the RFEF (31.76 ), 2.50% to the relegation compensation fund (39.63), 1% to LaLiga (15.85) and 0.5% to the unions (7.61 to AFE and 0.32 to FutbolistasON).
