Quim Nadal returns to the Government with ERC as Councilor of Universities

The first democratic mayor of Girona and Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Works of the tripartite governments of the Generalitat, Quim Nadal, will return to the Government this time with ERC as Minister of Universities and Research.

Nadal's is the first name that has come out of the conversations and contacts that the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, is carrying out to form his new Executive, after the departure of the seven ministers of JuntsxCatalunya. In this way, the ex-socialist from Girona will direct the Department that his fellow citizen Gemma Geis left vacant.

Joaquim Nadal (Girona, 1948) has extensive political experience, he was mayor of Girona from 1979 to 2002 and deputy in Parliament for the PSC from 1984 to 2012. Nadal assumed positions in the Palau de la Generalitat both in Pasqual Maragall's tripartite as in that of José Montilla. With the former, he was councilor for Territorial Policy and Public Works, as well as spokesperson and assumed for a few months the Ministry of the Presidency, after Maragall dismissed the six councilors of ERC and abolished the figure of the first councillor. With Montilla, Nadal stayed with the first of the departments.

Joaquim Nadal resigned from the PSC in 2015, dissatisfied with the resignation of the Catalan socialists to defend the right to decide.

Aragonès is finalizing his new Executive and everything indicates that it will be known throughout this afternoon. According to Palau sources, all the candidates to occupy a ministry have already accepted the assignment and the profiles of the general secretaries of the different departments to be covered are being analyzed.

It will soon be known whether or not there is a new vice president and who will be the replacements for Jordi Puigneró in Digital Policies and Territory, Jaume Giró in Economy and Finance, Josep Maria Argimon in Health, Victòria Alsina in External Action and Open Government, Lourdes Ciuró in Justice and Violant Cervera in Social Rights.
