Queen Sofía participates in a solidarity bazaar

This Saturday, Queen Sofía presided over the inauguration of the solidarity diplomatic bazaar that is open this weekend at the Intercontinental hotel in Madrid. After five years without being held, the bazaar created in 1984, is organized by the representatives of different embassies in order to raise funds for different projects. On this occasion, the money obtained from the sale of the different products and objects will be delivered to the Queen Sofia Foundation, which in turn will allocate it to finance projects of the Food Bank.

The diplomatic bazaar, also known as the Kermés de las Embajadas, is organized by the International Association of Diplomats in Spain (AIDE), which brings together more than forty embassies that seek to publicize their culture, gastronomy and crafts with a single purpose: solidarity with disadvantaged, sick and people in difficult situations. Queen Sofía is the honorary president of the AIDE which, since its creation, has organized 23 diplomatic charity bazaars and fifteen gala dinners to raise funds under the honorary presidency of Her Majesty Queen Sofía.

Since its foundation, the King's mother has devoted herself to the causes that concern her, starting with those related to neurodegenerative diseases, being a pioneer in the care and support for Alzheimer's research. Queen Sofía is also signing up for a garbage collection in mountains or seas that attends to one of the latest projects, the start-up, in collaboration with Cáritas, of some accommodation in Fraga (Zaragoza) that was recently launched. These are modules to welcome seasonal workers who go to work in the fields in Bajo Cinca in a dignified space, which will also serve to meet the needs of the homeless.

The Reina Sofía Foundation has among its priority objectives the Food Bank, an entity with which it collaborates not only financially, but also with the presence of the King's mother who, during the rest of the year, undertakes a constant tour of various venues. A few weeks ago, Queen Sofía was at the headquarters of the Food Bank in Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife
