PSPV and Compromís charge against Justice (Vox) for the Gender Violence Offices

The PSPV and Compromís have demanded this morning from the Minister of Justice and Interior, Elisa Núñez, (Vox) to clarify the future of the three Complaints and Assistance Offices for Victims of Gender Violence that exist in the Valencian Community. Yesterday, the councilor pointed out about this service that "we are studying the different possibilities that exist regarding them, it is true that among these proposals there is the possibility of them being maintained and with the possibility of expanding or reducing their powers." In a subsequent tweet, the Ministry specified that "yesterday a new Director General was appointed to guarantee the protection of victims and improve the functioning of the OAVD, in accordance with the Budgets."

But the lack of definition of the councilor has caused the opposition of Compromís and PSPV to react this morning. The socialist spokesperson in the Justice commission of Les Corts, Alicia Andújar, warns of the “dangerous social regression” that the Consell de PP and Vox represents for women: “It is very serious that the Department of Justice is rethinking the usefulness of the offices of gender violence.” The deputy assures that "from the PSPV-PSOE we will not allow a single attack on equality" and highlights that "thanks to Ximo Puig's policies, the Valencian Community is positioned as a national reference in the model of women's protection."

Andújar emphasizes that Mazón “has a serious problem in the Consell”: “He is capable of doing everything to please his far-right partners, even putting women in danger.” For its part, Compromís has announced that it is going to present various initiatives to ask the Consell about the future of these offices. From 2018 to 2022, these offices have served approximately 90,000 people, 85% women. It is the largest network in Spain (with 37 offices) and almost 200 professionals. It is a public network.

Unlike other autonomies, Justice in the Valencian Community assumes the burden of comprehensive care and protection of victims of gender violence. That is why it is important to know the scope of the decision to hand over this portfolio to Vox, a group that denies the existence of gender violence and on which it will depend on providing the necessary resources to these offices and the gender violence courts and approving The budget for the next ones is scheduled to be activated in 2023 and 2024.
