Provisional freedom for detainees accused of preparing a boycott of La Vuelta in Catalonia

The duty court of Solsona (Lleida) has agreed provisional release for the four independentistas detained for alleged threats against La Vuelta Ciclista a España 2023, which began in Barcelona and passes through Catalonia these days.

The judge has also decreed a minimum distance of 500 meters from the stages of La Vuelta a España on its way through Catalonia for the four detainees, according to the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) in a statement on Monday.

The four men were arrested by the National Police this Saturday in the Lleida region of Solsonès, accused of preparing acts against the passage through Catalonia of La Vuelta Ciclista a España. The cause of the four detainees remains open for crime against road safety, crime against the environment, criminal group and public disorder.

As reported to EFE by police sources, the four arrests occurred on Saturday morning within the framework of a device launched on suspicion that those arrested were preparing acts against La Vuelta.

The National Police searched the homes of the four detainees at dawn on Sunday. As explained by Martí Majoral, spokesman for Solidarity Alert, the defense could not visit them until Sunday morning, when their statement was taken.

"They have told us that the arrest is related to the course of an investigation based on the suspicion that these four people were preparing an action against the normal development of the Spanish cycling tour," Majoral said.

As for the profile of those arrested, Alerta Solidaria has limited itself to indicating that they are "independenceists", "adult men" and from Osona, specifically from Vic, Centelles, Calldetenes and Tavernoles.

Several dozen people have gathered this Monday before the Solsona courts to request the release of the four detainees. The demonstrators have exhibited a large banner under the motto 'Freedom detained' and several pro-independence flags. Also this afternoon, at 8:00 p.m., another rally was called in the Plaza Major de Vic (Barcelona) in support of the four people arrested.
