Some 200 people, the majority from the Selva Brava and Font Bona de Llagostera urbanizations, which constantly suffer cuts in the water supply, demonstrated yesterday along the C-35 highway, in the direction of Barcelona as a sign of protest against a “deficit” supply ” provided by the company.
The mobilization, which had the support of the Llagostera City Council, caused queues on a day that was the return operation. According to the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), the retentions, around eight in the afternoon, reached 4 km, at the height of Llagostera.
With this protest, the conveners want to force the company Rec Madral, in charge of supplying water to the two urbanizations, to resolve “at once the constant cuts in the service” and invest more in the maintenance of an infrastructure that they consider “obsolete”. ”.
“We want a service at the height of the 21st century and not be on edge at all times,” said Lorena Ordóñez, a resident of Selva Brava and a member of the Selva Brava Rights and Freedom citizen platform, recently established to defend the rights of residents. of this urbanization.
He points out that half of the days of this month of July, the neighbors have suffered a breakdown that has left them without water at some point. He assures that the situation this summer is not “exceptional”. “Every year the same thing happens, blowouts and breakdowns are constant,” he says.
A few days ago, the Llagostera City Council sent a request to the concession company to restore service to the two affected urbanizations. It also urged the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA) and the Agència Catalana de Consum to penalize possible infringements.
The Councilor for Urbanizations, María Carmen Flores, affirms that the demands of the residents are “completely lawful” and assures that they support their requests because “the company repeatedly breaches the contract.”
The urban situation of the urbanizations hinders the ability to act. Font Bona is in the process of being received by the City Council, but Selva Brava has not yet started the process. In September, the City Council plans to begin construction work on a new drinking water pipeline to the two neighborhoods.
