Premià de Mar claims a new Cercanías station 1,200 meters from the current one

A delegation from the Town Council of Premià de Mar (Maresme), with the mayor Rafa Navarro, the first deputy mayor David Gutiérrez, and the second deputy mayor and urbanism councilor Antoni Subirà, and one from Marina Port Premià, with the manager Eduardo Guerrero, they met with the director of Renfe, Raül Blanco, and with the director of Cercanías de Catalunya, Mayte Castillo, to ask that the procedures to build the new station begin.

The delegation delivered to the railway company the proposal, made by the Generalitat at the request of the City Council, to build the new station in the city and which outlines its feasibility. The presence of the Marina Port manager was due to the fact that the project locates the new station in the framework of the port to take advantage of its parking.

During the meeting, those responsible for Renfe asked the City Council to make the formal request for the new station through the Generalitat. In this sense, a concerted meeting is scheduled for April 19 with the Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructures of the Department of Territory of the Catalan government, Marc Sanglas, so that this process can be carried out. The managers of the railway company informed the Premianense delegation that they will study the project with interest for all that it would mean to improve the use of public transport in the area.

The proposal presented is the one that the Catalan government considers most viable of the total of four that were studied, and locates the station between Santiago Rusinyol street and the roundabout that connects Ramon de Penyafort street and the N-II. Thus, the distance between the two stations in the city would be 1,200 meters. The estimated cost (PEC VAT) of the proposal is €11.6 M.

The project draws a halt with side platforms, whose width is determined by the presence of the N-II, which makes it necessary to optimize its useful width at 3.10 m on both sides. This distance makes it possible to have a bus stop at one of its ends. The main access routes between the city and the projected station are the foot path from Santiago Rusinyol street and the existing path through the round tower of the old Club Náutico. Likewise, it offers the possibility of building other auxiliary accesses in the surroundings, since one of the priority aspects of the Generalitat is to resolve the connectivity of the station with the city and the seafront as effectively as possible.

The Generalitat document also includes a study of the mobility of the Premià de Mar neighborhood and neighboring municipalities and the impact that the new station would have on their uses. This study takes into account the effect of the also planned park and ride (Park

The meeting has also served to review the situation of the current Cercanías station. In this sense, the people in charge of Renfe have explained to the Premianense delegation that a new escalator will be installed next May to replace the one that is currently unused.
