Podemos raises an ERE to dismiss more than half of its workforce and guarantee its viability

Podemos has raised an Employment Regulation File (ERE) that will imply the dismissal, voluntary or forced, of more than half of the 200 employees that the party has. The objective is to guarantee the financial viability of the formation after the notable loss of institutional power as a consequence of the result of the elections of May 28 and July 23.

The training, through an internal letter addressed to its workers, explains that the reason for the ERE is to undertake a "profound reorganization in all areas to adapt to the decrease in resources" after the municipal and regional elections, and the general elections, according to advance EPE and has confirmed La Vanguardia. In some autonomous communities there has been a decrease in economic resources, but in others, such as the Community of Madrid or the Valencian Community, the electoral cycle leaves Podemos without any subsidy.

Nine territories will be affected by the ERE: Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, the Valencian Community and Galicia. Podemos has asked workers who, voluntarily, want to take advantage of the ERE to communicate it.

The formation led by Ione Belarra had a total of 222 workers at the end of 2022, including the party, the parliamentary group in the Congress of Deputies and the municipal groups. The goal now is to reduce the workforce to around 100 employees. The purple formation spent last year 6.1 million euros on personnel, between payroll and Social Security contributions. In 2017, Podemos had more than 400 workers and spent 12 million euros on their salaries and social contributions. He then had 45 deputies in the Unidos Podemos group. The next legislature will have 5.

"The income forecasts for the next electoral cycle are estimated, initially and after having made an initial assessment of the situation, at almost 70% less in State and in an approximate average of 90% less in the affected territories" , explains Podemos to its workers.

Therefore, "this reduction in income entails the unavoidable need to adapt expenses of all kinds to them, including labor, which in the case of the affected territories will imply the termination of contracts and the closure of work centers. , and in State, a reduction in the workforce”.

And he adds: "We deeply regret having to initiate an employment regulation file procedure for economic, technical and organizational reasons, as a result of the results obtained."

The ERE will not affect the husband of Yolanda Díaz, whom Podemos gave work in its internal organization after the formation of the Government, in 2020, because he voluntarily left the party a few weeks ago, indicate sources close to the formation.
