Pedro Sánchez asks Atlético for a firmer response against racism

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, in an interview with 'Politico', joined the voices of those who criticize the laxity with which Atlético dealt with the issue of racist insults by its radical supporters against Vinícius on the occasion of the derby Madrid on Sunday at the Metropolitano. "I'm a big Atletico Madrid fan, so I was very sad," Sanchez said from New York, where he has attended the opening of the 77th session of the United Nations Assembly.

The President of the Government demands more forcefulness to curb racism: "I expect a strong message from the clubs against this type of behaviour. This is what I will ask of my team. It is important that this type of behavior is taken seriously and reacted ", he claimed.

The League will present a report to the Anti-Violence Commission so that this body can assess whether Atlético and the supporters that can be identified deserve a sanction, which is believed to be very harsh. In this sense, the president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Franco, has said in recent hours that "the weight of the law will be applied to those who insulted Vinícius."

Atlético has contacted the police to help identify the supporters who carried out the insults and assures that if they are members, they will be kicked out of the club.

From the rojiblanca entity it is pointed out that "the attitude of a few does not represent either the club or the vast majority of its fans, who once again set an example of good behavior and who supported our team throughout the match with respect towards the rival. We reiterate our condemnation of these attitudes, but at the same time we do not understand the exaggerated focus that was previously placed on this match, generating an artificial and unfortunate campaign outside Atlético de Madrid”, they affirm.
