Pedro Almodóvar, Feroz Award of Honor

Pedro Almodóvar, the most international Spanish director and winner of two Oscars, will be honored with the Feroz de Honor Award at the gala to be held on January 28 in the Multipurpose room of the Zaragoza Auditorium. The award is granted by the Association of Cinematographic Informants of Spain (AICE), chaired by María Guerra.

The man from La Mancha is the first proper name to be revealed at some awards that will celebrate their tenth anniversary and that will repeat the Aragonese capital as the venue after the successful celebration of the last edition.

Almodóvar, who won an Oscar for All About My Mother (1999) and another for the script for Talk to Her (2002), has won ten Goyas, six Baftas, four Césars from French cinema, a Donatello from Italian cinema and two Golden Globes.

In his filmography there are great successes such as Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Tremulous Flesh, Bad Education, Back, Broken Embraces, The Skin I Live In, Juliet, Pain and Glory and Parallel Mothers, among others. She has also ventured into the field of medium-length films with The Human Voice, alongside Tilda Swinton, and last summer she shot the short film Extraña forma de vida, a western starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.

"Beyond all his Oscars, his mentions at international festivals (honorary awards included) and the unanimous recognition among cinephiles as one of the most recognizable and influential voices in contemporary auteur cinema, Pedro Almodóvar is universal because of his ferocity", has recognized by the Organizing Committee of the Awards.

Previously, the filmmaker had already previously obtained three Feroz awards. In 2020 he collected the awards for best direction and best screenplay for 'Pain and glory', which was also chosen as best dramatic film. Even in the first edition of it, in 2014, Almodóvar received 'ex-aequo' the statuette for the best trailer for 'Los amantes pasajeros'.

The organization highlights that Almodóvar has remained faithful to himself from the first short to the last feature film, for which they praise the fact that he has created a style, a way of seeing life "and even an adjective (Almodovarian)."

"Always the same as himself and always different. That is why we give a Feroz de Honor to the most universal of Manchego filmmakers so far in Film History rather than an award for a venerable past (which is also) for a future forever in question. Pure ferocity, which is the abstract of fierce as the abstract of Almodóvar is simply Pedrooooo," AICE said in a statement.

The director has previously won three Feroz awards. It was in the 2020 edition when he collected the awards for best direction and best screenplay for Pain and Glory, which was also chosen as best dramatic film. In the first edition of Los Feroz, in 2014, he received exaequo the statuette for best trailer for Los amantes pasajeros.
