Page raises the voice of the PSOE sector opposed to suppressing sedition: "The attack on the Constitution is going to be cheaper"

In Moncloa and the PSOE leadership they already took for granted in advance the opposition of two socialist regional presidents, the Castilian-Manchego Emiliano García-Page and the Aragonese Javier Lambán, to the bill promoted by Pedro Sánchez to eliminate the crime of sedition of the Penal Code, by which the independence leaders of the procés were convicted, in favor of the crime of aggravated public disorder, with a substantial reduction in prison sentences and disqualification. And indeed, both regional presidents, who face re-election at the polls next May, have been opposed to this initiative.

Page has assured that in his opinion it is "lawful and legitimate, and even serious and reasonable", to be able to raise in the medium term, "within one or two years", the debate on what criminal classification could be adapted to what happened in Catalonia in 2017, with the approval of the disconnection laws, an illegal self-determination referendum and a unilateral declaration of independence. But she has criticized the suppression of the crime of sedition. “What happened is very serious. Today we are in full escalation of prices, and the only thing that is going to get cheaper is the attack on the Constitution”, denounced the president of Castilla-La Mancha.

“This debate today does not really touch, because what I would like is for the first objective of all to be fulfilled, and that is for Puigdemont to come to Spain and submit, with the same rules, as Junqueras and the others did, to the courts. of Spanish justice”, warned Page. In his opinion, the rules of the game should not be changed in the middle of the game. The socialist leader has insisted: "Puigdemont has to come here first, and then we talk about how to classify future attempts in the future."

Page has warned that "the debate cannot be serene if it occurs by clearly interfering with the ongoing processes, including the appeal processes before the European courts." The president of Castilla-La Mancha has assured that "I can understand the good will that the Government of Spain has." But immediately afterwards he warned that "I am very clear that a pact on how Spaniards deal with the attempted constitutional breach that the entire planned operation of independence in Catalonia entailed, I prefer that it be agreed between the parties that defend the Constitution", in reference to the PSOE and the PP. "Because if that role is played by those who want to attack and end the Constitution, it is very difficult," he pointed out.

The former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, "wants to become judge and jury", according to Page. "That is, deciding himself what type of crime they can or cannot commit, and what penalty he would have, which is totally incomprehensible to me," he warned.

"It was not a riot," Page warned about the events in Catalonia in October 2017, referring to the crime of aggravated public disorder that will replace sedition. “Every democratic system has the obligation to have defense mechanisms, constitutional and democratic, for those who want to alter the constitutional order. It is an elementary thing”, assured the president of Castilla-La Mancha.
