Oriol Junqueras assures that Laura Borràs cannot be granted amnesty

The leader of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, assured this Sunday that the president of Junts, Laura Borràs, cannot be one of those who benefit from the amnesty law that they have agreed with the PSOE for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez because, in his opinion , "has been convicted of corruption" and "for fragmenting public contracts." "It has nothing to do with holding a referendum," he concluded.

Thus, the Catalan political leader has once again assured that he is not going to give up on a self-determination referendum in Catalonia and that he will do "everything possible" so that Catalan society decides on its future.

"We will never renounce democracy. And when we feel that we have majority support from our society, we will do everything possible to put the future of our society in their hands," Junqueras said in an interview on the Salvados program on La Sexta.

In this context, he assured, regarding a referendum, that "in any case it will not be a problem of the Constitution, but rather it will be a problem of democratic and political will." "The Constitution does not prohibit there from being a referendum and the Penal Code does not say that it is a crime," she indicated.

The ERC leader has defended his agreement to investiture the PSOE candidate, Pedro Sánchez, emphasizing that his party's contribution is "good in many areas", such as the increase in pensions or the interprofessional minimum wage. "It is good when they serve many of the social policies and citizens' rights. And this works in Catalonia, Extremadura and Cantabria," he said.

Although they do not trust Sánchez, as stated, Junqueras explained that an agreement had to be reached with the PSOE because "surely any other alternative is much worse." However, he has warned that "the legislature will have continuity if the agreements are met." "And if they are not fulfilled, then we will not have continuity," he has reiterated, while stating that his wish is for the Government to last "as long as it is good."
