OPEC agrees to increase oil production by 50% this summer

OPEC, which brings together producing countries and allies such as Russia, has decided at its meeting in Vienna to increase its oil production in July and August by 50% more than expected, up to 648,000 barrels per day.

The decision, made at today's meeting between the 23 members of the alliance, comes amid pressure from some consumer states.

The objective of this measure is to reduce the price of crude oil, which has hovered around 120 dollars, the highest level in a decade.
